Thousands of people from all walks of life joined the ‘Moitree Jatra’ on Friday (May 16, 2025). Branded as “Narir Dake Moitree Jatra” (Women’s Call for Solidarity), the march unfurled along Manik Mia Avenue, opening with chants and a cultural program.
The program started at around 3:30 p.m. with the national anthem, setting a solemn tone before speakers and street-theatre groups took the stage.
Speakers at the event highlighted ongoing challenges faced by women, including harassment and societal pressures. Placards emblazoned slogans such as “No Means No” and “Resist marital rape” reflecting demands for stricter enforcement and new protections.

The demonstration concluded with a formal declaration pressing for comprehensive data on gender crimes, expanded legal aid, and mandatory gender-sensitivity training within public institutions.
The Moitree Jatra was a powerful demonstration of solidarity, emphasizing the collective commitment to advancing gender equity in Bangladesh.
