Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) officers at the Benapole Integrated Check Post (ICP) on Sunday (September 7) seized a pistol and 93 rounds of ammunition during an inspection of an India-bound truck carrying raw chilies, and detained the vehicle’s driver and helper, the force said in a press release.
BGB officials estimated the value of the seized weaponry at BDT 103,720 (approximately USD 848.74).
The truck, bearing registration CG04PU****, was stopped during a special patrol operation this morning by a Benapole ICP patrol team under the Jessore Battalion (49 BGB). A search of the cargo revealed one pistol and 93 rounds of ammunition concealed within the vehicle, the BGB statement said.
Two Indian nationals, Gurjeet Saluja, 31, son of Jas Pal Saluja, and Ram Das Nawadi, 24, son of Malkia Nawadi, were taken into custody at the scene. Both individuals are residents of Chandra Shikhar Ward, Sadar, Betul, Madhya Pradesh, India. They were detained along with the recovered firearms and handed over to the Benapole Port Police for further action.

Lieutenant Colonel Saifullah Siddiqui, commander of the Jessore Battalion (49 BGB), said the operation formed part of continued intelligence-led patrols and checkpoints along the border aimed at disrupting smuggling networks.
“We are maintaining sustained operations to prevent the trafficking of arms, gold, narcotics, foreign currency, and other contraband,” he said in the press release, adding that patrols and investigative actions will continue.
The seizure underscores heightened enforcement at key transit points on the Bangladesh–India border, where border guards said they have intensified inspections of inbound and outbound freight to check illicit consignments.
In a separate press release, Md. Shariful Islam, Public Relations Officer of the BGB Headquarters, stated that during operations conducted in August 2025 across border areas and other locations in the country, the force recovered three domestic/foreign pistols, one revolver, one SMG, three rifles, 16 magazines, 815 rounds of ammunition, and eight other weapons.
Earlier, in July, the BGB’s recoveries included 10 domestic/foreign pistols, one revolver, 1 SMG, two rifles, four hand grenades, five magazines, 75 rounds of ammunition, 500 grams of gunpowder, and 11 other weapons.
